Thankfully, those days are fading thanks to the innovation of FASTags. These RFID tags, affixed to your vehicle's windshield, are simplifying toll payments in India, making them effortless, automatic, and a major time-saver.
The FASTag is a small, adhesive sticker containing an RFID chip and antenna. Once obtained, it can be simply stuck securely on the inside of the windshield, ensuring it's positioned correctly for optimal signal transmission. Typically, FASTag is connected to a prepaid account, commonly a bank account, digital wallet, or a FASTag-specific account provided by select service providers. FASTag lanes at toll plazas are usually marked with clear signage and overhead antennas. Vehicles pass through these lanes at a moderate speed, ensuring proper positioning. As vehicles pass under the antenna at the FASTag lane, the RFID chip transmits a signal containing the unique FASTag ID and retrieves linked prepaid account details.
